Venus of Brassempouy Replica – Paleolithic Figurine

The Venus of Brassempouy replica, also known as the Dame de Brassempouy or Lady with the Hood, reproduces one of the most recognizable human representations from Upper Paleolithic art.

The original was discovered at the Grotte du Pape in Brassempouy, southwestern France, during excavations carried out in the late 19th century. Carved from mammoth ivory and associated with the Gravettian period, the original is preserved today in the collections of the Musée d’Archéologie nationale in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Unlike many other Paleolithic female figurines, the Brassempouy piece survives as a small sculpted head. Its triangular facial structure, broad forehead, defined nose and pointed chin give it a highly distinctive appearance.

One of its most characteristic features is the grid of incised lines covering the upper and rear part of the head. This pattern has traditionally been interpreted as hair or a form of head covering, giving rise to the name Lady with the Hood.

Our reproduction is produced at 1:1 scale, closely matching the compact proportions and sculptural character of the archaeological original.

Each piece is cast in polyurethane resin and individually hand-patinated and hand-finished in our workshop in Valencia, Spain. Aged ivory, earthy and mineral tones are applied to emphasize the facial modeling, incised pattern and subtle irregularities of the surface.

Because each patina is applied individually by hand, slight variations in tone, markings and surface finish may occur between pieces.
