Lion Man of Hohlenstein

Lion Man of Hohlenstein-Stadel Replica – Paleolithic Lion Man Sculpture

The Lion Man of Hohlenstein-Stadel is one of the most extraordinary masterpieces of prehistoric art ever discovered, admired for its mysterious symbolism, hybrid human-animal form and strong connection to the spiritual imagination of the Upper Paleolithic. Originally carved from mammoth ivory approximately 40,000 years ago during the Aurignacian period, the figure remains one of the oldest known examples of figurative sculpture in human history.

This handcrafted reproduction faithfully recreates the elongated silhouette, sculptural proportions and distinctive anthropomorphic features of the original artifact. The fusion of human anatomy with feline characteristics gives the piece a striking visual presence, preserving the enigmatic and ritualistic character associated with the original Paleolithic sculpture.

Cast in high-quality polyurethane resin and individually hand-painted in our workshop, the sculpture recreates the appearance of aged carved ivory through layered earthy pigments, mineral tones and archaeological textures. The worn surfaces, engraved details and subtle porosity enhance its authentic prehistoric appearance while preserving the tactile quality of ancient carved material.

Despite its compact dimensions, the sculpture displays a remarkable level of sculptural detail and surface character. The elongated body, feline facial structure and weathered textures give the piece a refined museum-inspired presence ideal for prehistoric art collections, archaeology enthusiasts, educational displays and cabinet of curiosities interiors.

As an optional addition, we offer an exclusive Post Mortem Cult display stand entirely crafted in metal and designed following museum conservation principles. Featuring protective contact points, a felt-lined base and a gloss black finish, the stand provides both stability and an elegant exhibition presentation.

Each piece is individually hand-finished, meaning subtle variations in tone and surface texture may occur, making every sculpture slightly unique.
