Bison Licking Its Flank Replica – Magdalenian Paleolithic Sculpture
The Bison Licking Its Flank, discovered at La Madeleine in France, is one of the most distinctive works of Upper Paleolithic portable art. Created during the Magdalenian period, the original sculpture was carved from reindeer antler and is remarkable for its naturalistic representation of movement and animal anatomy.
Our 1:1 scale replica recreates the characteristic posture of the bison turning its head toward its flank, preserving the engraved details, curved silhouette and textured surface that give this prehistoric sculpture its distinctive character.
The reproduction originates from a master model carved entirely by hand in real antler exclusively for Post Mortem Cult. This artisanal master preserves a remarkable degree of porosity and surface texture, which is naturally transferred to each reproduction.
Each piece is cast in unfilled, degassed polyurethane resin and individually hand-painted in our workshop. Layered ivory, beige and brown tones are combined with a subtle aged patina, enhancing the engraved lines and surface irregularities while recreating the visual character of carved antler.
Designed for prehistoric art and archaeology collections, museums, educational displays and collectors, this reproduction combines archaeological inspiration with careful artisanal craftsmanship.
Each piece is individually cast and hand-finished, so subtle variations in tone and patina may occur, giving every replica its own character.
